This all-American program features Copland’s well-known fanfare and the entire Grand Canyon Suite, with its famous “On the Trail” section. In addition, Gershwin’s piano concerto is about as much fun as you can have at a CSO concert. Russian pianist Ilya Yakushev returns to bust out his “American” chops! Young composer Michael Gilbertson’s short orchestral work is an homage to Gershwin and to New York City in the 1920s. The composer will be present and share what images and themes inspired this electrifying piece.
